ABOUT THE CLINIC DIRECTOR

ACCREDITED MENTAL HEALTH SOCIAL WORKER

(BSW, MHSW).

OWNER/DIRECTOR MINDFUL LIFE WELLNESS

Maryanne is the Owner and Director of Mindful Life Wellness. She is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW / Medicare Australia), Specialist Children’s Mental Health Worker, Youth Worker, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counsellor, Course Creator, Kids Yoga Teacher, Podcaster, and Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) Dog Handler.

Maryanne brings over 30 years’ experience as a professional helper within the human services sector. Her work spans a broad range of practice areas, including adult clinical mental health, suicide prevention, child and adolescent mental health, child protection, parenting education and support, alcohol and other drugs, psychiatric rehabilitation, family violence, disability, youth work, hypnobirthing, and early childhood education.

In early 2011, Maryanne established her private practice in the then newly developed Laurimar–Doreen community. As a sole-trader small business owner, she is the longest serving private mental health practitioner in Doreen, having successfully operated her practice for coming up to 15 years. Working alongside her therapy dog, Tilly, Maryanne supports both adults and children through individual counselling and group therapy programs. She has also developed an online learning platform offering a growing range of therapeutic programs and resources.

Maryanne’s work has been recognised through multiple industry nominations. In 2019, she was nominated for several Australian Allied Health Awards and shortlisted for Australian Social Worker of the Year. In August 2023, she was shortlisted as a finalist in the Australian Ladies in Business Initiative (ALIBI) Awards, in the Enduring Brilliance category - recognising female-led businesses that demonstrate longevity, community contribution, adaptability, and sustained impact over more than a decade.

THERAPY DOG TILLY

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY (AAT)

Meet Therapy Dog Tilly

Tilly is a four-year-old Cavoodle and a valued member of the Mindful Life Wellness team. Tilly and Maryanne are trained in Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) and work together as a Therapy Dog team, supporting clients — particularly children — in both individual and group therapy sessions.

While Tilly can and does work with adults, her presence is especially beneficial for children. Her primary role is to support co-regulation by offering calm, comfort, affection, and gentle connection. Tilly assists children experiencing anxiety, including separation anxiety, and can support learning around emotional regulation, respectful play, and working through frustration or challenges.

Through her steady and nurturing presence, Tilly also helps children develop self-regulation skills and embodiment — supporting them to feel safe and comfortable within their own bodies. As with all therapeutic services at Mindful Life Wellness, Animal-Assisted Therapy is trauma-informed, with a strong emphasis on safety, containment, and emotional regulation. Tilly’s presence can help children feel both physically and psychologically safe, making it easier for them to engage, open up, and participate meaningfully in sessions.

Tilly is also playful and enjoys learning tricks and engaging in games. These up-regulating activities are particularly powerful for children, helping to build self-esteem, confidence, a sense of mastery, and empowerment. Trick training and play further strengthen connection and relationship-building between the child and Tilly, creating joyful and therapeutic moments within sessions.

Although Tilly is a qualified Therapy Dog, she is still young and continues to participate in ongoing training with a local professional trainer. Watching her grow and observing the connections she forms with clients — especially children — is a privilege and an ongoing joy.

To ensure Tilly’s wellbeing, including adequate rest and recovery, she may not always be available for every booked AAT session. Animal-Assisted Therapy sessions are often at capacity. If you are interested in AAT, please feel free to make contact via email to discuss current availability and whether this therapeutic approach is suitable for you or your child’s needs.

KIDS PODCAST

Kids Mindfulness Meditations. A Podcast for Kids

"When I listen to your podcast when I am in bed, I hear your voice and it feels like you are in the room reading me a meditation" Bella, 9yrs

Kids Mindfulness Meditations is a podcast created especially for children (and loved by parents too). It remains a generous free resource, offering calming, child-friendly mindfulness content that children can use independently or alongside caregivers. In addition, a paid subscriber-only area is available for families who would like access to extended content and additional resources, while ensuring free episodes continue to be accessible to all.

The podcast was created at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to support Kids Mindfulness students to find calm and emotional regulation while in-person programs were paused during lockdowns. Since then, Kids Mindfulness Meditations has reached children across the globe, achieving over 940,000 listens worldwide.

The podcast features guided meditations, calming stories, and visualisations designed for children aged 5–13 years. These episodes support relaxation, stress reduction, self-soothing, and settling at bedtime.

Join Mental Health Social Worker Maryanne as she gently supports children (and parents) to co-regulate through her calm, reassuring voice, guiding listeners through meditations drawn from her multi award-nominated Kids Mindfulness Program.

Available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts (Android), and most major podcast platforms worldwide.
